Light gold color; honeysuckle, flowers on the nose; key lime pie, lemon, yellow apple on the palate.
Juicy fruit, lean White Bordeaux wine; 80% sémillon-sauvignon blanc. Pleasant, dry, light body, good acidity, citrusy tang on the finish. I likely am tasting this at the end of its best-drinking life, but the fruit still has some life and this would work well as a food wine with its sharp acidity and generally neutral tones. It is a refreshing wine best cast as supporting character rather than in the lead role.
The Queyrens family has farmed in the area around Donzac in the southeastern most region of Bordeaux on the southern bank of the Garonne River for more than a century. The family purchased the vineyards of Château Pilet in 1965, and that remains the flagship of their holdings. In 1975, Jean and Yvette Queyrens acquired Château du Pin-Franc from Jean’s family and later in the same year, Château des Graves du Tich from Yvette’s family. In 1988, upon the death of Yvette, the family created the Civil Society Vineyards Jean Queyrens et Fils, the organization that produces wine today.
Château du Pin-Franc Sémillon-Sauvignon Bordeaux 2011 is a nice, well-behaved, sémillon-dominated White Bordeaux. $20-23
