Very dark salmon pink color; strawberry, red apple, honey, bread yeast on the nose; fruit-forward maraschino cherry, strawberry jam on the palate.
Creamy, delicious; refreshing, excellent acidity (3.1 pH); balanced flavors; dry even amid flamboyant fruitiness; clean, straightforward cava (Spanish sparkling). Very tiny, very persistent perlage.
Intriguing, strikingly dark color signals this is no ho-hum cava. It is not complex and does not have significant depth, but—golly—it is a really fun for an excellent price. If you want a party-starting pour, this is a go-to choice.
Juvé & Camps is a family-owned winery located in San Sadurní d’Anoia, a small town in the northeastern Penedès region near Barcelona. Founded in 1921 by Joan Juvé Baqués and his wife Teresa Camps Farré, the winery has a three-generation-plus history and enjoys an international reputation for quality cava.
The Juvé & Camps story began more than 200 years ago when grape farmer Joan Juvé Mir laid the foundation for what would become the family firm. His son, Antoni Juvé Escaiola, carried on the legacy through many challenges, including the phylloxera plague of the second half of the 19th century. Advocating replanting (as did other leading figures of the Penedès), Antoni led a drive to restore vineyards and rebuild the region’s wine production.
Antoni’s example encouraged his son, Joan Juvé Baqués, to build the family’s first winery. Joan Juvé Baqués married Teresa Camps Farré who, in 1921, inspired her husband to launch the first sparkling wine under the Juvé brand. It was made in the underground cellars beneath the family home in San Sadurní d’Anoia. Today, Juvé & Camps is one of Spain’s major cava producers.
