Perrin & Fils Gigondas La Gille 2010. Intense, dark ruby color; delightful dark cherry, red currant nose;
dense, dark fruits, cherry, blackberry, plum, raspberry; soupçon of fruit sweetness adds depth to graphite and black tea elements; fine-grain tannin; powerfully earthy; fruits persist through lingering finish; another hedonistic wonder from Perrin family at superb price for value. The history of Château de Beaucastel as a winery dates back to 1549; its association with Perrin family to 1909; today they are into the 5th generation. Their website sums it: “Beaucastel is, first of all, a family story, the story of Famille Perrin. Their main strength is being able to blend the talents of each family member to run the wine estate under common values: absolute respect for land and terroir; biodynamic culture as a philosophy of life, the research of truth, balance and elegance.” Such is the depth of wine experience and familiarity with terroir found in the Old World’s top regions and producers. Gigondas is a great appellation of the Southern Rhône, and the Perrin family consistently delivers immensely delicious wine and immense value.
