Columbia Crest H3 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2013: Inky black color; cherry, diffident nose;
cherry, plum, blackberry, some mocha and blackcurrant tang, herbs, some vanilla and oak (but not over-done) on the palate; soft tannin, mild acidity (3.77 pH), supple, smooth drinker. While this is not complex, it is very pleasant wine at good price for deliciousness and easy approachability. Cab-aphobics at the least should give this a try. Since 1983, Columbia Crest has blossomed from a small winery in an obscure region to one of the U.S. industry leaders, and clearly a major player in earning Washington State a place among world class wine regions. With production of 205,000 cases, H3 can be found almost anywhere; if it is not complex, it still is significant accomplishment to produce wine of this drinkability and quality at such production levels. No flaws, palate-pleasing pleasure to wide audience of cab drinkers, clear winner in the everyday wine category. $12-15
