Delectus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006: Garnet-purple color; cherry, raspberry, some oak, dust on deep nose; cherry, raspberry, bit of blackcurrant on the palate;
very delicious, very smooth with velvet tannin, reserved acidity, chip of mocha on the finish; 88% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot. Big wine, deep, fruity flavor and concentration, nicely balanced, lengthy finish. Exposure to some air makes its increasingly delicious. Delectus (Latin for “The Ultimate Choice”) is a husband and wife company. Gerhard Reisacher is an eighth generation winemaker who grew up in Germany, fell in love with California wines, and packed bags to move to Napa with 29 bottles of self-made wine as his resume. He worked for Monticello Cellars, Far Niente, Pine Ridge, and Clos Du Val before starting Delectus in 1995. Linda Reisacher was an executive in a wine bottle and container before meeting her husband; she manages the winery’s overall business operations. In the elite wine world, this is affordable pour; extremely delicious— especially after some air—a clear decant candidate. Superb value even at the six Benjamin price. $62-80
