Medium straw color; apricot, peach, green apple, pear, citrus, lemon, honey, minerals-crushed stone on the nose and palate.
Dry; no tannin; excellent acidity. Medium body, mouth-filling, intense fruit. Impressively complex and layered with a lingering finish that showcases the acidity and the plush fruits. This is serious wine better sipped with a complex charcuterie board or a meal rather than sipped as aperitif or alone. Not a poolside summer quaffer for sure. 12% ABV
Grapes are increasingly grown based on sustainable and, increasingly, organic principals. No insecticides or herbicides. Hand-picked. Proscessed in pneumatic tank to prevent oxygen contact and accent freshness. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and aged on fine lees.
Domäne Wachau manages 30% of the historic Wachau vineyard area—almost 1,000 acres—including half of Austria’s most iconic vineyard, Achleiten. The winery is led by Master of Wine Roman Horvath. His team works with a collection of growers committed to quality assurance. That is not surprise. Austria imposes very stringent wine regulations, and the Wachau region goes beyond those regulations. The Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching along the banks of the Danube. Many of the vineyards—such as Domäne Washau are steep and terraced with very old, dry stone walls. This is a special wine from a special place. The name Federspiel is derived from falconry, a popular sport among the nobility in medieval times.
