The Herdade do Rocim estate is located in the Lower Alentejo region in the southern half of Portugal, between Vidigueira and Cuba. Catarina Vieira coordinates the development of the estate and believes Alentejo has the unique conditions required to produce world-class wines. The website notes: “Since purchasing the estate, Caterina invested greatly in the land by completely regenerating the vineyards and building a new state of the art winery. She believes that Rocim has great potential for producing high quality wines with worldwide recognition, and has hopes of expanding the brand under the umbrella of quality for the region. She has created a project that gives value not only to Alentejo, but to Portugal as a whole.”
The winery’s website waxes poetic about its roots: “Herdade do Rocim is mainly the result of a desire and a dream. ‘God wishes, Man dreams, the Work is born’ is Fernando Pessoa’s poetic expression which best helps us to understand the circumstances in which the idea arose and the work has been created. This is the path we wish to take. The fragility of our human condition enables us to dare to believe that, to really achieve the current reality known as Herdade do Rocim, we were inspired by a certain God and driven by a certain dream.”
