Very light yellow color; orange blossom, pineapple, peach on vivid nose; mandarin orange, tropical fruits, honey on the palate;
medium body; significant acidity (3.13 pH) helps balance the honey and sweet fruitiness.
Moscato is pure pleasure and fun for some, way to sweet for others. This certainly will please moscato lovers. Head winemaker Victoria Ferguson crafted a pour that is clean with bright fruit flavors and picnic-friendly sweetness, low alcohol (7.5%), and a lush, honey-like mouthfeel. Moscato sometimes is called “summer in a bottle”, and this fits that bill and especially will shine on a picnic on a sunny spring or summer day.
Mirassou is a sixth generation California winery. The story begins with Pierre and Henrietta Pellier sailing to California with precious grape cuttings. When their ship’s water supply ran low, the Pelliers purchased potatoes onboard and inserted the cuttings into the potatoes to keep the cuttings alive. Pierre’s daughter, Henrietta, married a young Frenchman and neighboring vinter, Pierre Mirassou. Pierre died suddenly at age 33, leaving Henrietta and her three young sons to develop the vineyard. And Henrietta did—passing on vine and wine knowledge of her father and husband to her children. The family was foundational in the Central Coast growing region. Victoria Ferguson continues the female leadership tradition today as head winemaker. $12
