Nederburg The Brew Master 2010: Inky dark color; classic Bordeaux cherry, currant, tobacco, spice on the nose; dark fruits, dark cherry, plum;
intense fruit, significant tannin, blackcurrant tang on the finish; rustic with some complexity, racy acidity (3.29 pH). The South African red blend presents an old-style Bordeaux taste profile with blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec, and petit verdot; benefits significantly with air time/decanting. The Brew Master is part of Nederburg’s Heritage Heroes collection and celebrates German brewer Johann Graue, who purchased Nederbug in 1937. Graue introduced many technological innovations into South Africa, including cold fermentation to enhance wine aroma and vivid flavors; this effort certainly remains true to that vision. $22-26
