Inky purple-ruby color; rich, very pleasing black fruits, cherry, spice nose; black fruits, dark cherry, blackcurrant on the palate. Tasty tannin, reserved oak, full fruit and spice; tasty, extremely nice-for-price cab from Argentina.
José Orfila, an immigrant from Majorca Spain, founded Bodega Orfila in 1905. The original Mendoza winery now is a museum; today’s winery produces more than 30 million liters of wine each year and has a storage capacity of 200,000 bottles. Since 2011, Bodega Orfila has been part of Grupo Cepas, a major beverage maker in Argentina owned by Gancia family (major players since 1940). Guillermo Chavero is the winemaker.
The winery holds a traditional “grape treading” event each harvest, leading to the picking of the Queen of Grape Treading. Artists in Argentina have been part of this party since its inauguration in 2006. Winemaking clearly can be party. $13
