Dark ruby-red color; cherry, leather on the nose; sweet cherry, strawberry, spice, plum on the palate.
Medium body, light tannin, nice acidity, clean, easy drinker; 60% corvina veronese, 25% rondinella, 15% molinara. Classic Valpolicella profile from one of Veneto’s major producers.
Tommasi viticoltori is located in Pedemonte, a small village in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region, in the northwest part of Verona. Giacomo Tommasi began with a tiny vineyard in 1902; today the effort encompasses more than 1,300 acres in four regions in Italy and produces grapes for amarone classico, ripasso, valpolicella classico superiore (this wine), and recioto della valpolicella.
Valpolicella is the easy-drinking Italian red. Tannins will not pucker your palate. The fruits are there, and aging in large Slavonian oak casks means you don’t have to pluck wood splinters out of your mouth. This is great red wine introduction to those who are intimidated by massive reds. $16-19
